Kashish Chaudhary, a 25-year-old Pakistani Hindu woman, has scripted history by becoming the first female from the minority community in Balochistan to be appointed as Assistant Commissioner. Her appointment is seen as a major step towards women's empowerment and the representation of the minority in Balochistan's administration amid unrest in Pakistan's province.
On Monday, Chaudhary, accompanied by her father Girdhari Lal, met Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti in Quetta. "It is a matter of great pride for me that my daughter has become an assistant commissioner due to her hard work and commitment," Lal told the media. He said that his daughter had always dreamed of studying and doing something for women, reported PTI.

Balochistan Chief Minister Bugti termed Chaudhary's appointment as a matter of pride for the nation and the province. "Kashish is a symbol of pride for the nation and Balochistan," he said as quoted by PTI.
Who Is Kashish Chaudhary?
Chaudhary hails from the remote town of Noshki in Chagai district of Balochistan. She qualified for the Balochistan Public Service Commission (BPSC) examination. Kashish Chaudhary's father, Girdhari Lal, is a mid-level trader.
Chaudhary reportedly prepared for the BPSC examination for three years, as per Pakistan's SAMAA News.

In recent years, several women from the Hindu community in Pakistan managed to break social and cultural barriers and get top positions in the administration. In July 2022, Manesh Ropeta became the first Hindu woman to be appointed as Superintendent of Police in Karachi. Meanwhile, 35-year-old Pushpa Kumari Kohli is a police sub-inspector in Karachi.
