Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Preparations had started for the Simhastha Mela to be held in Ujjain in 2028, said collector Asheesh Singh (who has also been given the charge of Mela Officer) on Wednesday.
He added that officials of different departments had started planning for Simhastha. “However, for Indore we have to devise a comprehensive plan to make it successful and offer all help to the visiting pilgrims,” Singh said.
He said that the Simhastha was a very significant religious event for Ujjain, Malwa and in fact, the entire Madhya Pradesh. Devotees would arrive from all over the country and abroad and not only Ujjain but the surrounding areas, especially Indore, were going to play a very important role. Hence, there should be good planning to provide maximum facilities to the devotees.
“Certainly, it is a huge responsibility. The plan will be prepared by talking to all the stakeholders, the saints, chiefs of akhadas of Ujjain, etc,” he said.
Singh was earlier posted as collector of Ujjain and currently holding the same post in Indore, he knows the strengths of both the cities and the potential areas where special focus is needed.
Meanwhile, the work of making the Indore-Ujjain state highway from four-lane to six-lane has started. The work of widening the road is going on at a fast pace, while two other new roads are yet to be built.
