Mumbai: In a major crackdown on the narcotics network, the RCF Police in Mumbai have arrested five members of a drug peddling gang and seized mephedrone (MD) worth ₹13.37 crore.
As the threat of narcotics continues to grow in the city, senior officials have instructed all police stations to intensify action against drug traffickers. In March, the RCF Police received a tip-off that a suspect was arriving in Chembur to sell MD. A trap was laid, and the suspect was arrested with 45 grams of MD, valued at approximately ₹4.5 lakh.
Following interrogation, police discovered that the suspect was part of a larger drug syndicate. Acting on the leads obtained, the RCF team launched a series of raids across Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, arresting four more gang members.
In total, the police seized 6.688 kilograms of MD, with an estimated market value of ₹13.37 crore, according to officials. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the wider network and possible links to interstate or international drug cartels.
