Asfiya Bano Mohammad Farid Khan (22), a popular social media influencer from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, died in a high-speed crash on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near Panvel shortly after midnight on Sunday. Four others, including the driver, were seriously injured and are undergoing treatment at Cooper Hospital, Mumbai, police said.

Khan, who had over a million followers, had arrived in Mumbai 15 days ago with friends in a Toyota Cruiser. The group was travelling from Mumbai to Lonavala when, around 12 a.m. near the Palaspe Highway Police Chowki, driver Noor Alam Khan (34) reportedly lost control of the speeding SUV, which rammed into a roadside concrete block and overturned.

Khan, seated in the rear behind the driver, sustained fatal head injuries, while companions Mohammad Arbaz Mohammad Ahmed (24), Mohammad Arif Mohammad Azam (24) and Rizwan Khan (26) were also critically hurt.

Panvel Taluka Police rushed the victims to MGM Hospital, Kamothe, where Khan was declared dead. Assistant Police Inspector Subhash Dige said the crash resulted from reckless and over-speeding driving.

"A case has been registered against the driver under relevant sections. The SUV was completely wrecked in the accident. The other were saved due to the airbags. Khan sustained severe head injuries," API Dige said.
