Indore (Madhya Pradesh): An 18-year-old youth was electrocuted to death after stepping over a fallen electric wire under Bhanwarkuan police station limits on Tuesday morning.
The victim’s family members alleged that negligence by the electricity department and the Indore municipal corporation led to the incident. They staged a protest at the Discom zone office near Choithram Mandi carrying his body.
According to the police, the deceased was identified as Uttam Kochale, a resident of Jeet Nagar. On Tuesday morning around 9 am, Uttam came in contact with an iron rod placed near an electric pole close to his house. As soon as he stepped on the rod, he received a fatal electric shock and collapsed.
Family members alleged that the electricity department and the IMC had installed halogen lights in the Khandwa Naka area for a cultural event in Bilawali. Due to heavy rain and strong winds, one of the wires broke and fell onto a bundle of iron rods lying near a railing.
Uttam, who was not wearing footwear at the time, unknowingly stepped on one of the rods and received fatal electric shock. The family rushed him to the hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Following the incident, enraged family members and local residents staged a protest at the zone office near Choithram Mandi. They carried the body to the office and demanded action against those responsible.
The protest continued until senior police officers intervened and assured the family that a case would be registered following an investigation.
