Bhopal: Anglers Flock To Swelling Lakes, Despite Risk Of Drowning

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Though banks of Upper and Lower Lake are swelling with arrival of monsoon, the anglers are flocking to the lake sides to catch fish.

Angling is a favourite passion of Bhopal residents especially those living in old city. They can be seen at lake side all the year round. However, now equipped with fishing gear and tools, anglers can be spotted on the banks of Upper Lake near Sheetaldas Ki Bagia, Karbala, Khanugaon and even near Boat Club. Khatlapura, Karishma Park, Kali Mandir, Arch Bridge are also frequented by the anglers in large numbers.

Locals said that anglers stay till late night at Khatlapura till they are asked to leave by policemen during night patrol. It is worth mentioning that increase in water level poses threat of drowning.

There have been instances in the past where young anglers fell in the lake and drowned while fishing. Angling is the sport or recreational activity of fishing with a rod and line where catching fish is the aim.

Angling involves spending time by the water, which is good for relaxation and concentration but the associated risks should be considered when undertaking this recreational activity.
