The Special CBI Court No. 8 for CBI Cases at Ahmedabad on April 21, 2025, sentenced Pankaj J. Raval, then Superintendent/Appraiser in the Office of the Development Commissioner, APSEZ, Mundra, to five years' rigorous imprisonment (RI) and imposed a fine of ₹80 lakh in a case related to disproportionate assets.
The CBI had registered the case on April 20, 2015, against Raval on the allegation that, while serving as a public servant, he amassed disproportionate assets worth ₹45,37,178, which were not in line with his known sources of income.
During the investigation, it was established that Raval had purchased substantial quantities of jewellery and accumulated other assets during the check period from January 1, 2009, to February 26, 2015. The assets were found to be 153% disproportionate to his known income.
Accordingly, the CBI filed a chargesheet against Raval on November 26, 2015.
During the trial, the CBI examined 35 prosecution witnesses and relied on 101 documents and exhibits to support the charges. The Special Court found merit in the prosecution’s case and subsequently convicted and sentenced the accused.
