Indian team head coach Gautam Gambhir has admitted that the absence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be challenging for the team, but the retirement of these two players from Tests has opened the doors for others. Kohli and Rohit had said goodbye to the red ball format over a weekend this month. Both of them took this decision when India had to tour England for a five-match Test series next month.

It is believed that the team for the England tour will be announced in Mumbai on Saturday. Gambhir said, I think when to start your career and when to end it, it is anyone's personal decision. No one has the right to interfere in this, whether it is a coach or a selector or anyone in the country has no right to tell a player when to retire or not.
'Other people will get opportunities'
With Rohit's retirement, India is now looking for a new Test captain. Also, there will be no two experienced batsmen in the team and Gambhir has also admitted that it will not be easy to fill this void. Gambhir said, yes, we will go without two senior players who have a lot of experience and many times I feel that this is an opportunity for other people who want to take responsibility. Yes, this tour will be difficult, but many people can take responsibility. A similar question was asked to me before the Champions Trophy.
Gambhir said, when Bumrah was not in the Champions Trophy and even then I had said the same thing that the absence of a player can open up opportunities for other players who want to do something special for their country. Hopefully, there will be many other players who are waiting for the opportunity.

What did Gambhir say about Rohit-Kohli playing in the ODI World Cup?
Kohli and Rohit have retired from Test and T20 Internationals, but they will continue to play for India in ODIs. When asked whether Rohit and Kohli will be able to make it to the team for the 2027 ODI World Cup? On this the coach said, look, there is still a lot of time in this. Before the ODI World Cup, we have the challenge of the T20 World Cup and it will be a big tournament that is to be held in India in February-March. At present, all our focus is on this and after the England tour, the focus will be on the T20 World Cup. There is still two and a half years left in November-December 2027. The most important thing is that I have always said that if you are performing, then age is just a number.
