A Polish woman, Kasia—a travel content creator and solo explorer—recently shared a distressing episode from her journey through Himachal Pradesh. While descending from a guest house nestled in the mountains, she experienced what began as an uncomfortable interaction but quickly escalated into something more troubling. A man, unknown to her, approached her persistently, requesting to take photos—not of the scenery, but of her.
Initially, Kasia assumed he merely wanted her help to capture his own photo. However, she soon realized he intended to photograph her instead. Politely but firmly, she declined. “I wasn’t in the mood to chat or pose for pictures. I just wanted to enjoy some quiet and solitude,” she explained in the video’s caption. Having already experienced numerous selfie requests and brief interactions with strangers during her time in India, Kasia admitted that her patience for such encounters had run out.
But things took a darker turn. Despite her refusal, the man didn’t back off. According to Kasia, he began trailing her along the isolated path and even started yelling at her in Hindi. Overwhelmed and alarmed, she instinctively switched on her camera to record the incident. The footage captures her voice, shaky but assertive, as she tells him, “I don’t want to take a photo with you. Please stop following me. This makes me very uncomfortable.” Her direct confrontation—and the presence of the camera—finally made the man turn his gaze and stop following her.
Kasia’s frustration was palpable in her post. “I’m not some exotic creature for people to gawk at or photograph,” she wrote. “To some Indian men—please, don’t behave like this. We, foreign women, don’t want to be treated like pieces of meat. Staring at us isn’t going to make us talk to you. I am a human being. Respect my space.”
Despite disabling the comment section of the video to avoid further backlash or victim-blaming, she later clarified her stance in a follow-up post. “There’s a saying—India is not for beginners. But my purpose in sharing this video wasn’t to generalize or insult an entire country. I simply wanted to highlight an example of inappropriate behavior and start a conversation about what not to do as a man. It’s not about nationality—it’s about awareness.”
Kasia has 13,000 followers on Instagram and continues to travel solo with determination. Her video has received over 210,000 likes, sparking widespread conversation online.
