Shami slams false report of Test retirement after Rohit & Kohli

Send Push

It has only been a few days since the news of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announcing their Test retirements—something fans are still struggling to digest. Now, fresh reports claimed that pacer Mohammed Shami is also set to hang up his boots in the longest format of the game.

However, those reports appear to be false, as the pacer slammed an online article speculating about his retirement. Shami is currently playing for SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

Shami slams false report

The fast bowler took to Instagram Stories to shut down the rumour, firmly stating that he has no plans to leave the longest format of the game. Shami posted a screenshot of the report and called out its baseless claims, writing: "Very well done, Maharaj. Apna job ke din bhi ginloo kitna adieu hai. Badme dekhle humara aap. Jaise ne satyinaash kar diya future ka. Kabhi toh accha bol liya kare. Aaj ka sabse kharab story sorry."

(Translation: "Well done, sir. You should count the days left in your job too. You've ruined the future with such nonsense. Say something good once in a while. This is today’s worst story—sorry.")

Mohammed Shami's career

The Indian fast bowler has represented India in 64 Test matches and has picked up 229 wickets at an impressive average of 27.71. His most recent appearance in the format was during the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia at The Oval in June 2023.

Following an injury sustained during the ODI World Cup, Shami was sidelined for a while but made his comeback earlier this year in the T20I series against England. He was also part of India's victorious campaign in the Champions Trophy 2025.
