WWE SmackDown April 18: Carmelo Hayes won the annual Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal on the latest episode of SmackDown by last eliminating Andrade. This comes ahead of WrestleMania 41, the WWE’s biggest event of the year.

Carmelo Hayes proves his mettle

The Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal is one of the biggest attractions on the road to WrestleMania. It was previously held at ‘The Show of Shows’ but that has not been the case in recent years. The latest edition of the contest was held tonight on SmackDown, and it featured several intriguing moments. The participants included the likes of Carlito, R-Truth, Chad Gable, and the tag team called Pretty Deadly.

The match started with Truth eliminating ‘Caribbean Cool’. Thereafter, stars were thrown over the top rope at regular intervals. It finally came down to  Carmelo and Andrade. The two men put on a show, compelling the audience to chant ‘this is awesome’. Carmelo eventually got the better of his rival.

How did Rey Fenix fare in the  Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal?

Rey Fenix, the newest luchador on the block, has been making inroads in the WWE. He beat Nathan Frazer in his debut match before beating Berto. He was quite impressive in the battle royal tonight but failed to get the win. Penta’s brother was eliminated by El Grande Americano, who was not an official participant in the match. El Grande will be taking on Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 41, slated to be held in Las Vegas on April 19 and April 20.
