TV presenter Naomi Isted, 45, claims she was 'told to have an unnecessary hysterectomy'

Naomi Isted has admitted she was told she needed an "unnecessary hysterectomy" for her debilitating health issues.

The popular TV presenter has detailed how she was advised to get the major surgery for a health problem which she ultimately treated by simply changing her diet. Naomi was diagnosed with a 10cm fibroid which had left her housebound.

She revealed how the non-cancerous growth caused her to suffer from problematic extremely heavy periods. The periods would leak through her clothes if she was not vigilant about them.

Working as a self-employed interior designer, TV personality, and businesswoman, Naomi was left afraid that she would end up having an embarrassing leak on TV, which left her at least £20,000 out of pocket.

Opening up about the ordeal she told MailOnline: "It was so bad. I was bleeding so heavily I couldn't leave the house. I couldn't even leave my bedroom. I couldn't go out, couldn't see friends.

"I couldn't go to red carpets. I couldn't go out to work events. So I couldn't work with any brands at the time because, you know, it's totally impacted my work and my social life."

Naomi's diagnosis came after her bleeding got increasingly more heavy over a period of three years. She was eventually left "devastated" when the doctor told her she would need a hysterectomy for a 10cm fibroid.

She fearfully opted to undergo an embolisation instead but three months on, nothing had changed. She then decided to seek a second opinion from a private doctor.

Once there she was informed that she did not need a hysterectomy and that there were many other treatment options available to her. Her new consultant told her to cut down on sugar and carbohydrates and within a month her fibroid shrank from 10cm to 2.5cm.

It was at that point the excessive bleeding also began to ease with the change of diet totally transforming her way of life. Naomi has stressed that she now feels healthier than ever and has developed a positive relationship with food.

Recalling the horrifying experience Naomi said: "I was in tears because I'm 45, but to have the thought that you could never have kids again, that they're taking that option away from you without anything else.

"They mentioned embolisation but they just really dissed it. Some doctors would just say the only option is a hysterectomy for this. I've been seen by so many different doctors that they didn't even know I had seen another doctor. It was just so messy."
