Tottenham handed Mohammed Kudus transfer boost as West Ham make £52m decision

Tottenham will be hoping to soon confirm Mohammed Kudus as their second summer signing with an improved bid expected after West Ham rejected their opening proposal worth £50million.

Strengthening in attack is a priority for Johan Lange with Thomas Frank already green-lighting the permanent signing of Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich. The Lilywhites have also agreed a £5million deal with J-League side Kawasaki Frontale for central defender Kota Takai.

Those two signings are very much for the future but the aim will likely be for Kudus to have an impact immediately considering the funds needed to acquire his services.

With the Hammers needing to sell, it is very unlikely his £85million release clause will be their final asking price.It is much more likely an offer in the region of £65million would be accepted with the 24-year-old prioritising a move to Spurs over Chelsea, as revealed by The Athletic.

The Blues have already spent £138.5million on three attackers but could yet sign a fourth - with Kudus a serious option if all of Joao Felix, Christopher Nkunku and Noni Madeuke leave. There was concern the latter's potential move to Arsenal would help Chelsea fund Kudus, but his focus is on joining Spurs.

As such, Chelsea will likely have to focus their efforts elsewhere with Malick Fofana and Alejandro Garnacho two alternatives of interest.

In the meantime, Tottenham's full focus is on the versatile forward with a big West Ham decision suggesting their London rivals may be advancing for Kudus. According to Sky Sports, in France, Ademola Lookman from Atalanta is of interest to the Hammers.

He is expected to depart Italy ahead of the 2025/2026 season with £52million (€60m) as his asking price. Although the 27-year-old is open to returning to London, Atalanta are more interested in selling to a club of their choosing as opposed to Lookman's.

If West Ham meet their financial demands, though, it is unlikely to be that much of an issue and selling Kudus to Spurs will certainly help them achieve that.

A deal is not quite at the advanced stages just yet though as Kudus reported back to the first day of West Ham's pre-season training - with clubs often allowing players to delay their return if an exit is firmly on the cards.
