Tom Cruise sparks 'complaints' as he performs huge Hollywood stunt over sleepy Oxford town

Tom Cruise reportedly startled a village full of people as he performed a daring stunt above the small town.

Members of the public looked up in alarm on Monday as Hollywood star Tom, 62, undertook daredevil stunts above Bicester, north Oxfordshire. One local shared video footage of a plane flying manically above the town while a helicopter followed the flight path - presumably filming all the airborne action.

Many others took to comments section of the post to joke about the noise and claim they were going to make an official complaint to the Hollywood star - who is famous for his daring stunts. One Facebook user wrote: “So now I know who to complain to about flying low over my property!!! I demand an in person apology with flowers and a tux.”

Another wrote: “Saw the biplane and helicopter going back and forth this morning over Arncott.” And a further film fan typed: “Saw it this morning over ambrosden ,wondered what was going on.” And it seemed the stunt ended up crossing counties, as another fan wrote: “They made it all the way to Buckingham today, two biplanes and a helicopter.”

Tom is well known for throwing himself into dangerous stunts to make his films appear as real as possible. He famously held on to the edge of a freight plane while it took off to create a scene for one of the Mission Impossible films. He has also performed HALO stunts in the past - standing for High Altitude, Low Opening. This involves someone jumping from high in the sky and waiting as late as possible to open the parachute.

He recently also wowed audiences at the 2024 Olympics in Paris where he jumped from the roof of a stadium as part of a stunt. Paris hosted the most recent games and passed the lantern to Los Angeles where the 2028 games will be held.

Tom has gushed about his love for performing stunts in the past. Appearing on The Graham Norton show previously, he said: “I feel that [when acting] you’re bringing everything, you know, physically and emotionally, to a character in a story. I’ve trained for 30 years doing [stunts], and it allows us to put cameras where you are normally not able to.”

He previously told The Project: “I want to give it everything. It communicates to an audience when it’s real. It’s different. There are real stakes. And there’s also all the technicality all the things that I’m handling and there’s performing. They can put cameras in place with me where I am instead of using CGI. It’s a different emotional vibe.”

His stunts have gone wrong in the past, however, and he broke his ankle while jumping across roofs. Recalling the incident to Graham Norton, he said: “I was chasing Henry [Cavill] and was meant to hit the side of the wall and pull myself over but the mistake was my foot hitting the wall. I knew instantly my ankle was broken and I really didn’t want to do it again so just got up and carried on with the take. I said, ‘It’s broken. That’s a wrap. Take me to hospital’ and then everyone got on the phone and made their vacation arrangements”.
