This Morning money expert says people should think twice before shopping at Zara

People who love Zara clothes are being warned to think twice before shopping in their local high street. Heading to the airport could actually save you save money.

Jordan Cox, known as the Coupon Kid UK, shared a tip that fans of Zara might want to know about on TikTok. He urged people that frequently shop with the fashion brand to think about shopping abroad rather than here in the UK.

The money-saving expert, who frequently appears on ITV's This Morning, said that "flying out to a Spanish Zara could actually be cheaper" than shopping in your own town or city. This is down to the fact the company isn't actually a British brand.

He explained: "Because Zara is a Spanish company, their prices out there are quite a lot cheaper than they are here in the UK. With flight prices so cheap, you could actually fly out to Spain for a weekend or day trip, do your Zara shopping, come back and save some money."

Using a red oversized coat as an example, a UK shopper would spend just under £140 for the Zara garment. However, the same coat over in Europe was listed for €119 which converts to roughly £100 - a saving of £40.

Jordan wrote alongside his video: "You can search items on the Spanish Zara website (just by Googling it), to compare it to UK prices to see how much you save. Obviously, this is a bit tongue in cheek and not best for the old carbon footprint.

"But if you wanted a mini holiday, this is a good excuse to save money! Or if you’re going to Spain already - it’s good to know."

With cheap midweek flights starting from £35 at some UK airports, you may bag some savings and enjoy a mini holiday whilst you're at it. Checking other lesser known Spanish destinations might reduce this cost further but it's worth checking if you'll end up near a Zara store when you arrive.

Well-known finance guru Martin Lewis shared this piece of advice roughly a decade ago on his website, with many savvy shoppers taking his advice. At the time, he pointed out: "This isn't just about Zara. Similar pricing structures apply for other members of the same group, like Massimo Dutti and Pull & Bear."

The Money Saving Expert also compared prices (back in 2014) from English Zara to other European branches including France, Greece and Italy. Whilst there were some small savings to be made in these other countries, the Spanish route seems to be the most cost effective.

On Jordan's post, people were keen to give this a try on their next holiday. One said: "This is girl math at it's finest!" Another said: "Thanks for sharing, my daughter does this and saves a small fortune!" A third added: "Booking flights as we speak!"
