Delia Balmer has expressed her frustration with the media often leaving out some crucial points of her story.
Known as serial killer , the former nurse recounted her story and near-fatal relationship with the axe murderer in her 2017 book, Living With A Serial Killer. The chilling true story has since been adapted into a series for , titled , which has kept TV fans hooked from the get-go .
Ahead of the series' launch on November 3, Delia - portrayed by in the crime drama - explained that has gone the extra mile by including her in the process, allowing her to critique his drafts and writing excerpts that never appeared in her book - a far cry from the treatment her story had been given when it was printed as much of what she had written had been scrapped.

Speaking about writing her book, she first said: "When I wrote my original story, I included every detail of what happened. When it came to the final attack on the doorstep, I edited it over and over again, wanting everything to read precisely as it had happened."
"My concern has always been to get the truth out by whatever means. I remain an angry person. Sweeney was let out on bail. The police gave me insufficient protection before his final assault. Later, I was forced to go to court to be further traumatised by the system."
She then added: "I wrote my own original story because I wanted the facts of what really happened known. Often the media had not portrayed them accurately, and many issues important to me had not been stated. The printed book had been edited and much of what I had written was also omitted." But all this seemed to change when she met Nick in her literary agent's office.
"He followed my wishes and made certain changes where possible, and as I had suggested. Nick is very nice, and in his own words says he is trying to help me. The team at ITV have also treated me favourably", Delia continued. "I had the opportunity of visiting the set in Wales. It was interesting to watch filming of some of the drama."
Delia was left traumatised by her relationship with John, whom she met at a Camden pub in 1991. Shortly after their first encounter, the pair went on to date and Delia even allowed him to move into her home, completely unaware of his vile crimes. In 1994, she'd then tried to call time on the romance, to which he responded by holding her hostage. In another attack breaching police conditions, John charged at Delia with an axe, leaving her with life-changing injuries.
