Married at First Sight UK's Adam was put on the spot in Thursday's episode of the E4 show as viewers witnessed the series first commitment ceremony unfold.

The participants, including newlyweds Polly and Adam, settled onto the sofa to divulge the details of their marital journey so far.

Tensions rose when Polly voiced her fears over Adam possibly not finding her attractive, which led to an emotionally charged exchange.

Adam explained: "If I'm affectionate with her and cuddly and kissy with her. I don't want to give her the wrong idea because I don't want to hurt her."

Relationship guru Paul Brunson didn't hesitate to interject: "But you're married and you've had sex?"

Paul's blunt observation triggered a wave of surprise among the others in the room, who reacted with audible gasps, reports OK!.

Attempting to defend his standpoint, Adam told Paul that being intimate with Polly felt right at the time.

In no mood for excuses, Paul countered: "That's nonsense, my man! It's like you want to swim in the pool but you don't want to get wet."

Switching focus, expert Mel Schilling asked Polly for her take on having experienced intimacy with Adam only to see him pull away.

She shared: "I mean it's not ideal because I think when I'm in a relationship I am very sexually driven towards someone, that's just natural isn't it?

"I haven't pushed that because I'm not having the rejection of someone again."

Emotions flooded as Polly recounted feelings of deep rejection from a past relationship.

Peggy tearfully admitted: "I'm not giving anything to anyone. I'm not forcing it, if I've got to force it then it's not there.

"I shouldn't have to tell him to do something, he should want to do it and he's not."

Her on-screen husband, Adam, when queried about his hesitation, confessed: "I'm not perfect, but I am perfect for someone so I want someone who is perfect for me."

The expert Mel wasn't impressed by Adam's outlook, especially considering Polly's merits as his match in the show.

Adam revealed he finds Polly attractive but feels there's something lacking.

During the revealing session, Adam admitted his reluctance to become vulnerable and his fear of getting hurt.

Responding to this, Mel emphasized: "If you listen to what Polly's saying, she's saying that too."

Despite the intensity of their therapy sofa exchange, Peggy and Adam decided to stay in the experiment for another week to work on their partnership.

Married at First Sight UK continues Mondays - Thursday on E4 from 9pm.
