Liverpool talent has which could see him miss a substantial period of time in an unfortunate blow to his chances of kicking on after a strong start to the season on loan at Wigan Athletic.

The 20-year-old England youth international, who can play center-back and left-back, has been sent back to Merseyside for treatment, and he will recover in Kirkby before potentially heading back to The Brick Community Stadium. Chambers was on loan at Wigan for the second half of last season too, where he impressed under manager Shaun Maloney.

"It’s a back injury, and it’s not positive," Maloney told with Wigan describing the issue as one that will keep Chambers sidliend for the "foreseeable future". "It’s going to be a fair period of time that we won’t have him. He’ll go back to Liverpool and they’ll take over his rehab and treatment.

"We got that news yesterday and it’s a blow for him and a blow for us. He goes back to [Wednesday] and they will take over his rehab and see some specialists. It’s a shame. He was flying for us, and he has probably been one of our best players, so it is a bit of a blow."

Liverpool.com says: Chambers is a big talent and he has been doing really well. He will definitely have a future in the Football League somewhere, if not higher, having impressed in League One. A Championship loan could be the next step and he could even end up in the Premier League if he continues to develop.

Looking ahead, Liverpool could do with a left-footed defender who can play at full-back too. Chambers fits the bill and has proven that the step between League One and Liverpool can be bridged.
