Late Queen's heartbreaking comment to her staff in her final months

The late Queen Elizabeth II made a heart-breaking comment to her staff after she started to feel increasingly isolated in the final months of her reign.

When the Queen died aged 96 in September 2022, her death led to an outpouring of grief in the UK and across the world. But in the months leading up to her death, the Queen felt increasingly isolated following the death of her beloved husband Prince Philip in April of the previous year.

The Queen also felt incredibly sad having lost several friends within a short period of time. As such she started to invite former members of her staff to visit her to talk about the old times, although this came with a crushing admission.

Royal biographer Robert Jobson wrote in his new book, 'Catherine, the Princess of Wales: The biography', that one of her former staff members said: "She told me she didn't know anybody [her staff and servants] any more." Only regular visits and phone calls from her grandson Prince William could be said to be her highlights.

The regular chats resulted in the pair growing closer and his wife Kate Middleton reportedly encouraged the family to move to Adelaide Cottage, near Windsor Castle, so they could be with the Queen during her final months."

One aide said: "Prince William knew his time with his grandmother was precious and he is delighted they, as a couple, made that decision." Over her last months, the Queen's grew increasingly frail.

She was said to be in constant pain during her final public appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace in June, 2022. Her health deteriorated considerably in her last three months and even started to have difficulty lifting a teapot, according to MailOnline.

An unnamed source close to the late Queen said: "Her Majesty could hardly see and just didn't have the strength. She would get terribly frustrated as she hated causing a mess, pouring it over the tray. She asked for a smaller pot and would get frustrated when the staff forgot and brought a big one."

The late Queen reportedly did take comfort in knowing the monarchy would be safe for the next two generations. Her son Charles III was formally crowned King in May 2023, although he assumed the position automatically upon the death of his beloved mother.
