Kostas Tsimikas suggests new Mohamed Salah goal celebration against Bologna

Kostas Tsimikas appeared to be giving Mohamed Salah tips on goal celebrations during training ahead of Liverpool's Champions League meeting with Bologna.

The Egyptian forward has had plenty of opportunities to try out different celebrations over the years, having scored more than 300 career goals.

He will hope to be celebrating another strike when the Reds return to European action at Anfield on Wednesday, and Tsimikas seemingly urged Salah to mark any goal he might score by standing still and stretching his arms out wide, a la Jude Bellingham.

The majority of Salah's career goals have come in a Liverpool shirt, with the 32-year-old having notched 216 in 357 appearances in all competitions since moving to Merseyside from Roma in 2017.

The majority of Salah's career goals have come in a Liverpool shirt, with the 32-year-old having notched 216 in 357 appearances in all competitions since moving to Merseyside from Roma in 2017.

He has started this season in excellent form, scoring five goals and registering four assists in eight appearances under new manager Arne Slot, and Salah's start to the new season has emphasized just how important a figure he is in Liverpool's attack at a time when his future at the club looks uncertain.

Salah is one of a number of key Liverpool players who are due to become free agents at the end of the season, with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold also into the final year of their contracts.

Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson believes all three players would be extremely difficult to replace, but he told Sports Casting that there is a player more important than Salah that the Reds should prioritise keeping hold of.

“I think the most important player of the three that Liverpool need to sign on is Virgil van Dijk,” Lawrenson said. “It’s not just about his playing ability but what he gives the team in the dressing room and his leadership qualities on the pitch. He really runs that team and would be a massive miss. We’ve seen Liverpool struggle to cover that centre-back spot when one of them gets injured in the past, so it’ll benefit them in the long term if he stays at the club longer.

“I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that any one of him, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah leaving would cost Liverpool hundreds of millions in terms of replacing them. These three guys have earned the right to do whatever they want though, so you can’t really look at them and say, ‘why are they leaving?’ It’s a tough one for the owners, but that’s the way that it is.”
