Stand-up comedian Janey Godley has shared some exciting news about her daughter just days on from announcing an update on her incurable cancer diagnosis.

The Scottish comic, 63, was forced to cancel her tour earlier this week on the advise of doctors. The writer from Glasgow, who has been living with stage four ovarian cancer over recent years, had been set to embark on her 'Why Is She Still Here?' tour, which included dates across UK cities such as London, Belfast and Edinburgh.

Janey told fans she was "really sorry" on Wednesday as she revealed she was in hospital and fighting sepsis. "The sepsis is under control but the cancer is spreading, so they’ve told me not to work," the star explained in a video shared on Twitter (X) and other social media platforms.

Returning to Twitter on Thursday, Janey had some happier news to share with her fans. Captioning a snap of her daughter Ashley Storrie, alongside a shot of the set of BBC show Celebrity Mastermind, the proud mum told her 304,400 followers: "Today my lassie is on celeb mastermind! I can’t be prouder!"

"She looks so much like you Janey! How lovely for you all," one of Janey's followers told the star. "Gosh she looks like you, Janey," another Twitter user quipped, with a third adding: "Wow, go her! She'll smash it. I'm not surprised your proud any decent mother would be."

The cancellation of Janey's tour was announced via a statement regarding the comedian's career read: "It is with huge sadness that we must announce the cancellation of Janey Godley's autumn 2024 tour. Janey has been living with stage four ovarian cancer for the past few years and the treatment from the wonderful Scottish NHS has kept the disease at bay, but sadly in the last few weeks the cancer has returned and there have been a few added complications.

"Her doctors have now advised her that she must stop work for the foreseeable future. Janey is devastated to let down her thousands of loyal fans, and the wonderful venues, she has played many times over the years. She would like to thank everyone for their love and support at this difficult time."

Janey later revealed that she is in hospital being treated for sepsis which is now "under control." In a heartfelt update shared on her social media, the comic told fans: "Hi everybody, as you'll see in the news today we've had to cancel the tour. I'm really sorry. We sold thousands and thousands of tickets and there's so many people employed and my poor bloody agent Chris has been magnificent. I'm in the hospital. I've been here for eight days, I had sepsis as well, and my cancer team has advised me not to work again, just to try and get better. The sepsis is under control but the cancer is spreading, so they've told me not to work."

Janey first revealed her ovarian cancer battle in 2021 and triumphantly announced an all-clear in 2022 on Twitter, saying there was "no evidence of disease". However, a change in her condition emerged with another scan showing signs of cancer in her abdomen. Despite this, she planned to proceed with her February and March 2023 tour.

During an interview with ITV's Lorraine Kelly, she recounted advice from colleague Jimmy Carr that encouraged her to not give up touring, sharing: "I decided to cancel the tour, and my mate Jimmy Carr said, 'Is your mouth not working? '. I went, 'Yeah, my mouth works' and he said, 'Well get back on tour'."
