'I'm giving baby son a unique name – but people warned it sounds like breakfast staple'

People have been left gobsmacked after a mum shared her unique named for her son - which people say sounds like 'bacon'.

Anyone who's had a baby knows how exciting the naming process can be. Choosing a name for your child is one of the most important decisions new parents will make - and it can often be difficult if you haven't found the perfect one.

Some people know from a young age what names they want to use, while others spend years thinking about it. Some love traditional names while others are inspired by their favourite celebrities or characters..

First time mum Brooklyn Franklin, who gained popularity online after sharing her pregnancy and parenting experiences, wanted a unique name for her son. In a video shared on TikTok recently, she showed a sweet moment with her son while sitting in her car. She said: "How it feels knowing my son will never have the same name as someone else growing up."

"And that's on made up names," she added.

Her son's name is Bekan. While the content creator recently declared she "made it up", the moniker is also known as a character from Star Wars and is the name of a village in Ireland. Research claims the masculine moniker Bekan signifies someone who desires love and independence.

Brooklyn, 25, said she initially loved the named Beckham but wanted it to be more unique. Now social media users couldn't help but think it sounds like 'bacon' and others noted the name might not be as unique as Brooklyn thinks.

Another added: "What kind of name is Bekan. Poor kid." "How do you pronounce it cause I keep saying bacon," said another.

Someone else wrote: "Bekan, why does it kinda sound like bacon?" Another questioned: "Bacon? Like bacon? Or how do you pronounce It?"

Brooklyn explained her son's name is pronounced like 'beck-an'. A number of people say they have heard the name before. Another mum commented: "OMG. My son's name is Bekan! That's wild. I've never seen another one."

"My neighbour's little girl is named Bekan," added another. One other wrote: "My baby's name is Bekan and my uncle's kid just got this name."

Brooklyn isn't alone with people sharing their opinions on unique baby names. Previously a couple left many stunned after revealing the baby names they won't be using, and another mum wanted to name her child after a Harry Potter character.
