Groundbreaking BBC drama with 'perfect scores' releases season 2 first-look

The BBC has released an exciting first-look at the upcoming second season of its critically acclaimed new series for 2024, Boarders.

Following a group of five Black teens who are sent to an elite school on scholarships, the first six-part series received rave reviews from fans and critics alike.

As well as sharp observations on race, class and privilege, viewers were also hooked by the characters’ storylines and there were plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, too.

Following its premiere in February of this year, the announced a follow-up in June, with American platform Tubi joining as a co-producer.

Teens Jaheim (played by Josh Tedeku), Leah (Jodie Campbell), Omar (Myles Kamwendo), Femi (Aruna Jalloh) and Toby (Sekou Diaby) return among their classmates and teachers in this new sneak peek.

In season two, a rebellion is sparked among the students which lands headmaster Bernard (Derek Riddell) under suspension.

The new boarders face a reckoning of their own when Carol Watlington-Geese (Niky Wardley) takes over the school with a mission to get them expelled.

Boarders’ creator Daniel Lawrence Taylor previewed what’s to come after the staggering response to season one, including achieving the coveted 100 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes.

“Bringing the new season of Boarders to life has been an incredible experience, especially with the exciting addition of new faces to the cast,” he said.

"Watching the actors effortlessly return to their roles, as if they had never left, has been an absolute joy.

“We hope you enjoy this second helping of the series as much as we’ve enjoyed creating it!”

Some exciting newcomers mentioned by Taylor include Loki’s Wunmi Mosaku as Jaheim’s mum Grace and Downton Abbey star Cara Theobold as the school’s resident writer, Jude.

Producer Madeleine Sinclair added: “We’re so thrilled with our cast for series two of Boarders, both the wonderful returning characters and the exciting new faces – viewers are in for a real treat.

“Daniel’s scripts are once again as funny as they are thought-provoking and our talented cast come together to bring them to life perfectly.”

Boarders season 2 will premiere in 2025 on BBC Three. Season 1 is available on BBC iPlayer.
