Fans have declared they're 'not ready' after Sky and HBO released a brand new look at the new series of The Last of Us.

Based on the hit video game franchise, the show's Season 2 picks up five years after the events of the first series, the same time frame between the first and second game.

Joel and Ellie's collective past catches up to them, drawing them into conflicts with each other and new enemies, drawing them further into a more dangerous world than they ever expected. There could also be a few more types of infected to deal with on the way.

Fans have been quick to praise the new teaser for how it recreates key moments from the game's critically acclaimed sequel.

The Last of Us Part II released in June 2020 for the PlayStation 4. It was the much highly anticipated follow up to the PS3 original, created exclusively for Sony's consoles by developers Naughty Dog. Both games were remastered and released on the current gen PlayStation 5 in 2022 and 2024 respectively.

The first series of the HBO adaptation changed only a little from the source material, the biggest alteration being the well-received episode following Bill and Frank.

It looks like Season 2 will also follow closely to the original story, which means many fans know what happens and have admitted they're not sure if they're ready.

A fan responded to the trailer on X, formerly Twitter by saying: "Fantastic trailer. I'm so ready for S2 but also not ready at the same time." Another added: "I’m ready but also not really."

One viewer responded with a screengrab of what appears to be a key scene in both the trailer and the series. It shows Bella Ramsey's Ellie screaming and in tears. With it they said: "This is THE scene isn’t it…."

Another agreed posting with a warning for those who had not played the games: "I don't think no body will be ready for the *** scene. The real ones know."

The trailer sees many returning faces including Ramsey as Ellie and Pedro Pascal as Joel. Gabriel Luna also features again as Joel's brother Tommy with Rutina Wesley as his partner Maria. New cast members were previously announced and are featured in the teaser including Kaitlyn Denver as Abby as well as Isabela Merced as Dina and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac.

Catherine O'Hara also guest stars and while her character has not been confirmed, fans have a theory she could take on a role not seen in the game. Craig Mazin, who is also known for creating the hit limited series Chernobyl, returns as writer and executive producer on the show. He is joined once again by the original game's director Neil Druckmann in the same roles.

The Last of Us Season 2 will be available to watch on Sky Atlantic and stream on Sky and NOW TV in 2025
