Crystal Palace boss pinpoints reason for dire run but admits: 'There is no button to forget it'

Oliver Glasner insists Crystal Palace are suffering from a crisis of confidence after their early-season struggles continued in defeat at .

Winless Palace suffered a fifth defeat in eight games midway though the second half at the City Ground. The Eagles had enough chances to get something out of the game, with Forest keeper Matz Sels being called upon to make seven saves, but they could not find the breakthrough and continue to languish in the relegation zone.

They also have the division’s worst goal tally, having scored just five times, and Glasner concedes that an inability to make the most of their opportunities is affecting belief.

He said: “Everybody is frustrated, disappointed and it’s our responsibility, especially mine, to get the chin and head up of every player. I don’t think it’s a tactical problem, it’s a mentality problem, it’s a lack of confidence and so this is what we have to change.

“There is no button that we can press to forget it but the passion and hard-working mentality, all the players in the dressing room are disappointed but no one blamed each other, now is time to support each other.

“We saw it (against Forest) and the last games, we always have an XG higher than one but don’t score. We have good chances but the more we miss the more the confidence goes down.

“We are the only ones that can help ourselves.”

Midfielder Elliot Anderson put in another impressive performance in the middle of the park for Forest who were missing suspended pair Morgan Gibbs-White and James Ward-Prowse. The 21-year-old summer signing from was unlucky not to score after he danced through several Palace defenders before being denied by Henderson and also saw two pinpoint crosses squandered by Wood.

Nuno Espirito Santo only had good things to say about the England Under-21 international.

The Forest boss said: “He is versatile, in terms of midfield he can do that position in front of the two, he can play wide, he is playing in many positions for us.

“Always good performances, the talent is there. You saw it and we are very happy with him. We are missing important players, James and injuries, the players who came in did a good job.”
