A British man has tragically died while on holiday in the Canary Islands.

The man, from West Lothian in Scotland reportedly died at the weekend while on holiday with his mother in Fuerteventura. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development office (FCDO) have confirmed they are supporting his family. It is understood the pair were staying at a resort when the tragic incident took place, with the exact cause of death currently unknown, reports Edinburgh Live.

A FCDO spokesperson said: "We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Fuerteventura and are in contact with the local authorities." The FCDO can provide personalised advice for bereaved families including finding local funeral directors, layers abroad or translator. They can also contact the local authorities and provide information on how to request updates regarding a local investigation.

Fuerteventura is the second largest of Spain's Canary Islands. It is known for its white-sand beaches and year-round warmth, attracting a significant number of UK tourists during the summer.
