Arsenalhave been handed an update on their reported interest in signing Real Madrid star Rodrygo.

The Gunnershave been heavily linked with signing Rodrygo this summer as speculation continues to swirl around the Brazilian's future at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Rodrygo is currently with the Madrid squad in the United States as they take part in the FIFA Club World Cup under new manager Xabi Alonso.

Amid the speculation that Rodrygo could leave Madrid this summer, Arsenal have been frequently mentioned as a potential destination. The Gunners are continuing to be linked with signing a new forward this summer, which has only fuelled the rumours that Rodrygo may be a target.

The Athletic have reported that Arsenal believed they had a good chance of signing Rodrygo due to the sales pitch they offered the player.

The report claims that the Gunners were "convinced" they could offer Rodrygo a role in the team where he could play with freedom in the final third while predominantly being used as a left winger, which is his favoured position.

It has also been reported that Rodrygo's agent has also turned down approaches from several Premier League clubs this summer, although it remains to be seen if Arsenal were one of them.

Rodrygo started Madrid's Club World Cup opener against Al-Hilal but was an unused substitute in their win over Pachuca in the Spanish outfit's next fixture.

With Madrid's final group game against Red Bull Salzburg on the horizon,Alonso recently insisted that Rodrygo remains part of his plans going forward and explained why he decided not to give the Brazilian any minutes in their last match.

"He [Rodrygo] looks good to me, enthusiastic," Alonso told reporters after the win over Pachuca last week.

"The other day was a technical decision. He remains important and we will need him in the Club World Cup. He is a special player and he will have a significant role."

Arsenal also remain interested in Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze, football.london understands, as they assess many attacking options during summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old has had a strong second half to the season and sits with 11 goals and 12 assists, along with key goals along the way to an impressive FA Cup final appearance.
