Anne Hathaway sends fans into complete meltdown as she confirms Princess Diaries 3 movie

sent has into a state of hysteria when she confirmed she was set to film Princess Diaries 3, reprising her role as Mia Thermopolis.

The 41 year old actress, who shot to fame for her role in Devil Wears Prada, took to to confirm the news. She posted a video clip of herself counting to three with snippets from the first two films, where she is seen along with saying "shut up!"

When she got to three, Anne repeated the phrase as she blew a kiss to the camera. She then captioned the post: "Miracles happen. Back to Genovia with @adeleblim @disney @somewherepictures. The fairy tale continues." Both Anne and Julie first starred in the first film back in 2001 and reprised their role in the 2004 sequel. Both films were directed by the late Garry Marshall, who tragically passed away in 2016.

Princess Diaries 3 will be directed by Lim, who is perhaps known for Crazy Rich Asians. Speaking to Variety magazine, she said: "As a diehard fan of the original Princess Diaries, I’m beyond excited to be a part of bringing the third iteration of this beloved franchise to life. We look forward to celebrating its core tenants of female power, joy and mentorship with audiences worldwide.

On the back of her confirmation, fans were quick to comment with one saying: "Thank you for such wonderful news, I honestly still can't believe it." Another person said: "This is perfect!!! Can’t wait!" Meanwhile a third person added: "Actual tears are rolling down my face. " And a fourth penned: "I immediately burst into tears."

The third instalment of the film has been in the planning stages since 2022. During an interview with V Magazine, Anne said: "We’re in a good place. There’s nothing to announce yet. But we’re in a good place." And fans wasted no time in posting comments of their excitement. One said: "I just learned that there’s a Princess Diaries 3 in the works and I’m so excited that I’m too stunned to speak."

Another added: "I’ve wanted another Princess Diaries film my whole life no one will ruin this moment for me." And a third commented: "WE’RE GETTING PRINCESS DIARIES 3. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT I'M SO HAPPY." A fourth fan wrote: "PRINCESS DIARIES 3 IS IN THE WORKS WE’RE GETTING PRINCESS DIARIES 3 YES YES YES YES YES THIS IS EVERYTHING TO ME!!!!!!! MY DREAMS CAME TRUE MY PRAYERS WERE ANSWERED THANK YOU!!!!!!!"

Predicting the storyline having watched and invested in the past two films, another fan said: "I wonder if Mia will have a child of her own in Princess Diaries 3." During an interview on Today back in March, Julie Andrews who is best known for her role in the iconic Sound of Music cast doubt over the future of the film.

She said: "There was dialogue about it." She then went on to say "nothing had been realized. And I think I may be wrong, but I think it's been shelved now. I can't be sure." She added: "It's quite a long time now since the two Diaries were done, and I'm not sure, but sometimes it's best to leave a good thing alone. I don't like it when people milk and milk and milk the subject, you know, 'til it's dead. I'd be very happy if we did do another one. But I don't expect to."
