Alisson and Alexis Mac Allister send clear Mohamed Salah contract message to Liverpool chiefs

Liverpool duo Alisson Becker and Alexis Mac Allister lavished praise on Mohamed Salah as he set another goal record.

The Egyptian scored one and set up another against Bologna as Liverpool made it two wins out of two under Arne Slot at the start of its Champions League campaign. Salah is now the highest-ever African goalscorer in the history of the competition.

He teed up Mac Allister for an easy tap-in to open the scoring for Liverpool before a nervy end to the first-half, as the visitors laid siege on Alisson's goal, forcing him into a string of saves before hitting the woodwork.

But Liverpool regained composure after the interval and secured the points when Salah cut in from the right hand side before unleashing a trademark strike into the far top corner.

And after the match Alisson and Mac Allister were under no illusions about how lucky Liverpool is to have Salah, with his contract expiring at the end of the campaign.

Speaking on TNT Sports, Mac Allister said: "A goal is a goal, in this team when we make a run Mo [Salah] can see everything. Really happy for him, I think it was a good night for everyone."

And his comments were echoed by Liverpool's No.1, who said: "He's a player that helps us a lot, sometimes it looks like he’s not in the game but suddenly a perfect touch, he puts the ball in the top corner. That’s his quality, his strength as well.

"We are lucky to have him but we always have to highlight the hard work the team had and a lot to improve but good enough to win the game.”

Salah's future remains unclear with Liverpool yet to offer him a new deal. He admitted after the recent win over Manchester United that he has not heard anything from the club about extending his stay.

Ex-Reds striker Peter Crouch was also impressed with his performance, he said: "He is world class. The ball for the first goal was fantastic but the finish for his second was great. The moment he goes onto the left foot and cuts inside, you know what he is going to do but you can't stop it."
