Alexis Mac Allister makes honest assessment on Liverpool under Arne Slot

Send Push

Alexis Mac Allister insists that Liverpool are still in 'transition' under Arne Slot, despite their record-breaking start to the season.

Slot became the first Liverpool manager to win eight of his opening nine games in charge following the Reds' hard-fought 2-0 win at home to Bologna in the Champions League on Wednesday. Mac Allister opened the scoring with just 11 minutes of the clock before the Italian side made it tricky Liverpool for extend their advantage - and had chances of their own.

Mohamed Salah eventually wrapped up the three points with a sizzling second-half strike, giving Liverpool their fifth win in a row and back-to-back Champions League victories. But Mac Allister feels that there's still plenty to improve on, with the Reds' squad seemingly still transitioning from life under beloved former boss Jurgen Klopp.

"It is clear we are in transition, we are happy with the ideas, we are trying to get there," the Argentine midfielder told TNT Sports post-match. "There is room for improvement, that's why we work very hard every day."

No doubt Mac Allister is happy with the way in which things are going under Slot, who said of his positive start to life in the Anfield dugout: "Not only the players, also the staff I inherited, who were here before, it was positive from the start, the players as well. Keeping many things the same, they were very happy with former regimes. The good thing is that they bought into it."

Asked about his record of eight wins in nine games, the ex-Feyenoord manager was keen to share the plaudits. "It's hardly impossible to do something special at this club," Slot admitted.

"It says a lot about how we started how players bought into it, the effort put in, the staff helped me. Even more difficult fixtures coming up starting on Saturday when we play a 12:30 kick-off after a Wednesday evening Champions League game. It's nice to start this way, that's clear."

Slot's focus will now be on beating Crystal Palace to make it six successive wins before the international break. Once they return, the Reds will embark on a particularly tricky set of fixtures which will test not only their main foundations under Slot but also their squad depth.

Between October 20 and December 14, Liverpool face Chelsea, RB Leipzig, Arsenal, Brighton twice in a row, Bayer Leverkusen, Aston Villa, Southampton, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Newcastle, Everton and Girona. Those games come across three separate competitions, all of which Liverpool will want to win.
